Family issues again this weekend. However, I did hear of another tour. This time it’s in Lake Highlands and much smaller but I’ll be digging up details on it and posting them here. I think this tour is smaller and is located in Lake Highlands exclusively.

I also got new details on a modern home being built and for sale. When I round out that information, I’ll post it here and I’ll also add it to our mash-up of the google map of Modern Homes in Dallas.

Teasers tonight for everyone. I will dig in this week and complete promises on the site. I know the masses wait with baited breath.

In place of all the details I want to write about, I’m going to save them for tomorrow because there are tons of things to write about. I saw five of the seven houses (but to be honest I had seen one already). There were handouts, tons of people and lots of amazing different styles all within the realm of contemporary. I also saw in action different material, flooring, windows, furnishings and ways different people combined them. I also got a great view of how the different houses interacted with the environment and nature! So that’s tomorrow.

In the meantime I got some good advice from the lovely and talented Leia who is an amazing CSS developer and web strategist. Check her out if you have needs. She recommended a topic a day and I think that makes sense.

I thought I would try and get some structure around here and see if that helps ya’ll enjoy the site more. Here’s what I’m thinking (this reflects NaBloPoMo time and may changes once we are not doing daily posts-might not):

Monday: Modern Furnishing highlight of the Week
Tuesday: Modern Home Concept
Wednesday: Architect Highlight of the Week
Thursday: Modern Home for Sale in DFW
Friday: Modern Home Builder of the Week
Saturday: Modern Store Highlight
Sunday: Free Write

I’d love to hear feedback if there is anything want to hear about or see, let me know. I’m going to also work on the Google Map Mash-up of Modern Homes in the Dallas / Fort Worth area. If you know of one or want to list one, let me know!!!

I’m not sure if everyone or anyone is familiar with this but NaBloPoMo or National Blog Posting Month is an offshoot of NaNoWriMo. National Novel Writing Month is a great exercise in getting going on writing the next novel. They don’t care what you write, they just want everyone to write 50,000 words. I’ve tried it a few times and never completed it but with NaBloPoMo I think I can manage. The goal is to write a Blog Post a Day for a Month. So this month (November), I will attempt to write and celebrate modern homes and modern homes in Dallas / Fort Worth for a month.

That reminds me, that I need to actually find and do some research about homes over in our sister city Ft. Worth. I worked in Ft. Worth for years and love the genuineness of the people and the energy that it contrasted with Dallas. There is a ying and yang aspect to the pull and push of the two cities but as both continue to grow, it won’t be unthinkable to view the two cities as one very large city. That’s my thought anyways. I can here both residents of the cities collectively shout out “No” because we both like the seperateness of the cultures. Either way, I need to dig in an do some research on the modern homes of Ft. Worth and report back to you.

Don’t forget that the AIA Home Tour is next weekend. I’m very excited about the event and can’t wait to report back. For tickets, go here.

And I ran across this shot the other day and wanted to share. It’s a cabinet with a unique style. From Yoav Avinoam, the designer’s home page.

in an ever changing world people are having their LCD TV hung on the wall. suddenly the cabinet doesn’t have to hold the weight of the T.V. This cabinet is preserving the qualities of the iconic wood cabinet texture with laminated bamboo plates to create similar and yet new flavored cabinet.

There is an entire site of great works from this Industrial Design in Bezalel. Check it out.

I just wanted to post a few housekeeping things here for edification and clarification. Guidelines to help our conversation and state with clarity my goals for this site:

I value your opinion. This is an exploration. I walked into a house and had a feeling that I once got in museums. That feeling of being splayed open and a part of me being touched. It has taken awhile to get to where I want to open that feeling up for discourse. I think in the coming years it will evolve into a fiscal purchase and move into that world. In the meantime, lets talk!

I, as a person value constructive confrontation. Meaning if I state something you don’t believe in or that you disagree with, lets talk about it, either in the comments or if big enough, we can have a in-post dialogue. This does not mean I will tolerate anonymous snark.

I plan on profiling people, events and communities active in this space and in the Dallas region. I hope that will entail interviews with architects, developers, designers and anyone that provokes that modern aesthetic feeling. I predict that I will get to actually meet, speak and document these conversations and their impact, sometimes not.

A large part of the modern homes is the architecture, the design and the furnishings. I want to look at all three things and plan on having a focus on these things. I am going to give credit by linking back to where these things are found and where applicable to the page where they can be purchased. I am not a professional photographer. Where there are appropriate images, I will pull them. If you are a copyright owner and feel that this material is in violation let me know and I’ll pull the image.

I have been involved with the Internet professionally since ’95 and have what I would consider an above average knowledge of blogs and their behavior, both personally and professionally. I know they evolve and change and I reserve the right to do that with this blog. If you get different things from the blog that’s fine. I view online writings as threads and as you interact with them they braid and change shape and color and become other things. I invite this.

That’s it for now. That being said I might add to this and I’ll probably add this entry to the left as a manifesto de DFW Modern Homes.
